HP is likely to play spoil sport for Microsoft as it plans to launch three webOS-based tablets at the Consumer Electronics Show, the venue that Microsoft has chosen to showcase its Windows 7 and Windows 8 based tablets.

HP will release three versions of PalmPad that will run on webOS juice, version 2.5.1. It further reported that the fourth tablet mainly crafted for university students will not be showcased at the CES event.

One of the trade edition of PalmPad is due to support 9.7-inch LCD screen and will weigh about 1.25 pounds. It supports both a front-facing and rear camera with 1.3 MP and 3 MP capacities respectively.

Earlier reports stated that HP’s webOS based tablet is due in the first quarter of 2011. However, Microsoft is planning to use the CES platform to unveil its line-up of tablets manufactured by Dell, Samsung and other manufacturers. If the report of HP’s PalmPad comes through and the tablet becomes an important competitor, then Microsoft stands to mislay a significant partner in its tablet plans.

It first released webOS 2.0 beta for developers in September and in October formally released webOS 2.0 model.

Microsoft has reported that there sales of its Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system have reached 1.5 million within six weeks of its release. Microsoft UK’s project chief, said that its operating system meant to make things easier for there users.

However, Berg confesses Microsoft was only “comfortable” with WP7′s progress, saying its performance was similar to other first generation mobile platforms. He said, “We’re in the race – it’s not a sprint but we are certainly gain in momentum and we’re in it for the long run.” He added

Berg also set several updates of WP7 that would be available in the next couple of months. According to recent reports, Nokia could discard MeeGo to develop hardware running on Microsoft’s WP7.

While 1.5 million sales have been made to phone manufacturers, it is still unclear how many devices have been sold to customers. Berg said WP7 sales figures “are similar to the performance of other first generation mobile platforms”.

With Apple selling more iPhone 4 devices to customers in three days than Microsoft have sold to manufacturers in six weeks, WP7 doesn’t look much like competition.

Nokia announced today that it is in the process of releasing new, “green” editions of its C7 and N8 smartphones, featuring reduced packaging, efficient power supplies, and a collection of environment-related apps.

The phones themselves aren’t getting any changes as part of this eco-effort. To the company’s credit, both are already engineered from relatively earth-friendly materials. Instead, Nokia’s cutting back on packaging for the phones, using “just enough to protect the devices in transit.”

Nokia posted that the green editions of the N8 and C7 will include high-efficiency charging adaptors, but didn’t go much into specifics, suffice it to say that the phones will charge more quickly when using these cords. After the power mishaps with the N8, we hope Nokia has gotten its charging issues sorted out.

Without detail as to the breakdown of the included environmental apps, it’s tricky to tell if they’ll add much to the phone’s greenness. We know there will be an eco-themed educational game and a statement about the phone’s environmental impact, but beyond that, “other third-party apps” is all Nokia offered.

Nokia E5, similar to a business phone, technically gifted and, unlike its predecessors, has a affordable price. The design is typical E Series models with full-QWERTY keyboard: well-knit shell, rather than wide (57 mm) and 2.36 inch screen with QVGA resolution (320 x 240 pixels). This display seems completely overtaken by current trends (with touch screens resolution huge), but in practice proves to be good enough for almost any activity.

Immediately below the display is the navigation pad that unfortunately we are not delighted with optics as does the Nokia E72. An optical trackpad is extremely useful for browsing the Internet. Thus, with only the arrow keys, you have very good control over the cursor.

Full-QWERTY keyboard is comfortable, can be used easily even with one hand. In contrast, the volume keys located on the right side pressed very hard and are almost impossible to use when the phone is on your ear. The upper part hosts the microUSB port used for transferring data and charging the battery. There is also a dedicated jack for charging the battery. For the earphone/handsfree, you have the port on a standard 3.5 mm.

Nokia E5 is running the latest version of Symbian S60 non-touch screen: Symbian OS ver. 9.3, rel. 3.2 – an intuitive, fast and stable and a pretty good application support – Ovi Store.

According to sources LG recently leaked details on its upcoming LG Optimus Pad Android tablet. Like Motorola’s upcoming tablet, the LG Optimus Pad will be powered by Android Honeycomb, a version of Android that’ll offer tablet optimization. According to LG, the LG Optimus Pad will sport a 8.9-inch capacitive touchscreen and be powered by a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset. The latter could possibly be the chipset used in Motorola’s upcoming tablet too, as the company already has a Tegra 2-powered smartphone in the pipeline.

Through an official statement from LG regarding the LG Optimus Pad, but the company says they’ve got nothing official to share at this point. That said, Engadget reports that the LG Optimus Pad should be arriving in European and North American markets in Q1 2011, and an internal PowerPoint slide reveals the following description of the upcoming Android tablet:

LG OPTIMUS PAD

LG introduces the Optimus Pad on Android platform, with superior performance, thinner and lighter than competitors’ tablets and many “firsts”.

Samsung Galaxy S owners in the United States and the U.K. where upgrades to the Android 2.2 Froyo build have been delayed until November. Froyo upgrades have not been announced in the United States.

Samsung issued this press release Oct. 14 stating that Android 2.2 would be rolling out in mid-October.

Android 2.2 will be available via Samsung’s Kies software upgrade program for the Verizon Wireless Samsung Fascinate, AT&T Samsung Captivate, Sprint Samsung Epic 4G and T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant handsets, all of which were launched with Android 2.1 this past summer.

Samsung Galaxy S devices have proven very successful for the company, which said earlier this month it had shipped more than 5 million of the handsets worldwide.

Consumers appreciate the 4-inch Super AMOLED screen that provides quality viewing and access in light or dark environments. Apple’s iPhone, RIM’s Blackberry Torch and other smartphones as the market awaits Windows Phone 7 handsets next month.

The Samsung Galaxy S line is the last batch of major Android smartphones to get Android 2.2 as Google prepares to launch Android 3.0.

T-Mobile G2 might be the first Android-based handset to sport HSPA+ connectivity, but it seems that T-Mobile’s has stretched its area wider and that the unannounced T-Mobile myTouch HD would be a dual-core handset to include such capabilities. In addition to running under Google’s Android 2.2 operating system, the upcoming T-Mobile myTouch HD is expected to include support for the carrier’s HSPA+ network and to pack a dual-core processor inside, at least this is what recently leaked documents on it show.

Whether the carrier refer with its HSPA+ network, which, according to it, can deliver 4G speeds, or to something else, it remains to be seen. The list of its terms includes a 1 GHz dual-core processor, a 3.8-inch touchscreen display, a 5-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus and flash, and a front-facing VGA camera for video calling.

Other specification would include 4 GB of internal memory, most probably complemented by a microSD memory card slot for additional storage space, and the Android 2.2 OS on top of the hardware, most probably coupled with HTC’s Sense UI. The new Android-based mobile phone also comes with the Swype virtual keyboard, Screen Share, and the Genius Button, this time with a driving mode that enables users respond to text messages via speech.
